Restaurant chain Java House Africa has opened another branch in Kigali, its second in Rwanda, as the firm intensifies its billion-francs growth plan for the region.

The new eatery, located in Remera area, comes after opening its first coffee house in the Rwandan city in January 2017.

Java House said a large share of the over Rwf8.8 billion set aside for expansion will go towards opening new branches across East Africa. The firm runs coffee outlets, owns 360 Degrees Pizza and a frozen yoghurt brand dubbed Planet Yoghurt.

It currently has 63 branches.

“Our goal is to carry the finest East African coffee to the rest of the world — but first, to ‘fill’ the regional market, hence explaining a move to expand to all corners of the East African Community,” said Java House Head of Property Sam Imende during the launch.

The expansion drive is set to continue in the wake of the proposed acquisition of Java’s owner Abraaj Holdings by UK-based private equity fund Actis.
