Singer Alexander Star to perform at Ubumuntu Arts Festival

Internationally-renowned Alexander Star is scheduled to perform at this year’s edition of Ubumuntu Arts Festival to be held from 13 – 15 July.

The Emmy-nominated singer, also recognised for using his talent to create songs that share messages of peace and hope, is expected to bring his talent and positivity to the attendees of one of Africa’s largest festival that calls for humanity, peace-building and healing.

The festival brings some of the world’s best performers to tells stories of overcoming adversity, building resilience and the role of art in this journey.

One of Star’s popular songs, “This Is My Era”, is an anthem for a movement that inspires communities around the world to become agents of change.

“I’m excited to come to Rwanda. The land of a thousand hills. I’ve heard sad and incredible stories about the country and I’m ready to explore it and learn more about this incredible example of national resilience. I hope to entertain, engage, and inspire!” Star said.

Star also announced that he will be making a new theme song for the festival alongside other talented artists from around the world.

He said he will be working with kids from Rwanda’s Umubano School, Andy Bumuntu, Grace Dublin, and Gerda Igiraneza.

This year’s edition of Ubumuntu Arts Festival is scheduled to take place at Kigali Genocide Memorial amphitheatre. It curates performances under the theme “Art and the Path to Resilience.”

“We are very happy to have Alexander join us for this year’s festival. It’s his first time in Rwanda and we believe his message will be powerful,” festival coordinator Kurtis Dennison, said.
