The Dream Team Deejays are now a house hold name based on their charm and skills in live entertainment. They’re also working on more collaborative music projects with artistes.

Started in 2013 by DJs Miller, Marnuad, Karim and Toxxyk, who all are in their mid-20, the trio made a name for themselves with unique performances that attract the youth.

“Teaming up for business wasn’t difficult, since we are close like family,” said Virgile Karuranga alias DJ Miller.

“We did it for the passion. I earned Rwf2,000a night, which was fine then,” said Arnold Ishimwe alias DJ Toxxyk, who started spinning five years ago, at the age of 18.

“We realised teaming up would yield better results,” he adds.

Since then, the group has performed at several public and private events. Earlier this year, the Dream Team Deejays embarked on creating and nurturing collaborative musical projects with local musicians.

In June they released Bape, a song that featured Afro dance hall musicians Active Again and DJ Manuard. This was followed by Un Million C’est quoi remix with DJ Miller and Peace Jolis; Happy Faces by Davis D and DJ Toxxyk; Iri Joro Ni Bae by DJ Miller featuring Knowless Butera, Dream Boys and Riderman.

“We wondered why we mostly had to play club music from foreign countries, especially Nigeria,” said DJ Marnuad.

“Through travel to countries like Kenya and Uganda, I saw that a DJ can spend hours playing their music, which is different from here, because of the few club songs produced,” he adds.

According to DJ Toxxyk, playing your own music is more enjoyable. “Dejaying wasn’t easy at the start, but it is slowly getting better,” said DJ Marnuad.

The trio including DJ Jules are focused beyond just the usual deejaying gigs. Earlier this month, the group launched Manuard’s Bar by Dream Team Deejays, a hangout spot located in Kimihurura, a Kigali Suburb. The newly established venue is the group’s new home.

Deejays have tapped into the commercial sector, where besides just playing music, they are entrepreneurs.

A good DJ can charge between Rwf100,000to Rwf300,000 per day, and Rwf500,000to Rwf1,000,000 a month.
